Floreat was created as a new "garden suburb" in the late 1960's and its open garden setting is protected by provisions in the Endowment Lands Act. One of the main shopping icons in Floreat is the Floreat Forum, which has been servicing its local region and community of Perth since 1965. Recently renovated and expanded the complex includes a community library and civic hall. Floreat Forum has had a long association with the community and continues to evolve to meet the rapidly changing needs of the area. Floreat is located only 8km west of the Perth CBD and only 2km from the coast having a somewhat protected environment afforded by Bold Park and Reabold Hill.
